Petra Karadimas investigates the possibilities of perception through the medium of photography. Her work distances itself from the representative image to varying degrees. She photographs things in her environment, sometimes side scenes like urban waste land, shrubbery or building surfaces, at other times images of light and shadow or dense clouds. It is not always clear what is represented.
Petra Karadimas is less concerned with documenting existing situations than with creating a space for opening and questioning perception. Cityscapes appear fragmentary in dense striations on different layers. Shrubbery sprawls into patterns or cross graphic backgrounds. Building fassades are photographed 1 to 1 or appear strangely askew in the image frame. The images are the result of subtle observation. Time and again they circle around the question of what is 'realistic' and our relationship to it.
